The purpose of Journal Club on the GI Learn web site is to provide concise reviews of timely and important articles published in the AGA’s journals, Gastroenterology and Clinical Gastroenterology & Hepatology. Most of the articles reviewed will have clinical relevance to members and fellows in training. The abstract is included along with a review of the article written by one of the editors. The purpose of the review is to provide a detailed and condensed summary that reveals the essential clinical importance of the article. The review should provide enough information to be used as a time saving device for clinicians.

Geoffrey L. Braden, MD, AGAF is a practicing gastroenterologist and Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He received his MD from the Ohio State University, finished his residency in interenal medicine at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics and completed both clinical and research fellowships at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He has been board certified in gastroenterology since 1981 and was named a fellow of the AGA in 2006.
Dr. Braden has had numerous roles in online physician education over the years including past appointments to the Editorial Board of Medscape's Gastroenterology section, Editor of Medscape Gastroenterology, the AGA Education and Training Committee and Chair of the AGA Web-based Education Subcommittee. In addition, he is currently Associate Chair of the AGA Institute Editorial Board for Online Education. He brings a wealth of expertise to the organization in the areas of IBD, Hepatitis and medical informatics and has been a dedicated steward of educational activities to AGA members and the gastroenterology community. Trainees and other AGA members can read short commentaries from Dr. Braden each month on some of the top articles from the AGA journals. Ingram M. Roberts, MD, MBA, AGAF is a gastroenterologist, Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency and Vice Chairman of the Department of Medicine at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT. He was formerly the Program Director of the GI Fellowship and Chief of Gastroenterology at Bridgeport Hospital from 1995-2004. He received his MD from Johns Hopkins University, finished his residency in internal medicine at Bronx Municipal Hospital Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed both clinical and research fellowships at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He has been board certified in gastroenterology since 1981 and was named a Fellow of the AGA in 2006.
Dr. Roberts has had numerous roles in online physician education over the years and has contributed to Up-To-Date and eMedicine. He is currently a member of both the AGA Institute Editorial Board for Online Education and the AGA Institute Electronic Medical Record Technical Expert Panel. |
